R. Buckminster Fuller quote

“Our beds are empty two-thirds of the time. Our living rooms are empty seven-eighths of the time. Our office buildings are empty one-half of the time. It’s time we gave this some thought.”

Eve Ensler at TED India

"Imagine girl is a chip in the huge microcosm of our collective consciousness, which is essential to the balance, wisdom and future of humanity.
Imagine that girl is the part of each of us that feels compassion, empathy, passion, intensity, association, relationship, emotion, play, resistance, vulnerability, intuitive intelligence, vision.
Imagine that compassion informs wisdom. That vulnerability is our greatest strength. That emotions have inherent logic and lead to radical saving action.
Now remember that those in power essentially taught us and conditioned us to believe the opposite:
Compassion clouds your thinking.
Vulnerability is weakness.
Emotions are not to be truted.
Don't take things personally.
To be a boy means not to be a girl.
To be a man means not to be a girl.
To be strong means not to be a girl.
To be a woman means not to be a girl.
To be a leader means not to be a girl.
It must be very powerful to be a girl if everyone Is taught not to be one." - Eve Ensler

Unhappy Hipsters

Unhappy Hipsters is a blog that takes photos from Dwell, a design magazine, and pairs them with cleverly sad little comments.

"He is sad because his house looks like an elementary school. And all the children have died."
"You can come out when you can properly explain the differences between Modernist architecture and postmodern ornamentation."

Neil Gaiman Quote - Love in the old-fashioned way

“Let us begin this letter, this prelude to an encounter, formally, as a declaration, in the old-fashioned way: I love you. You do not know me (although you have seen me, smiled at me). I know you (although not so well as I would like. I want to be there when your eyes flutter open in the morning, and you see me, and you smile. Surely this would be paradise enough?). So I do declare myself to you now, with pen set to paper. I declare it again: I love you.” — Neil Gaiman

Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris - Hallelujah

The Hope for Haiti telethon raised $59 million for the destroyed country. This beautiful performance (from the telethon) by Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris has probably just become my favorite version of the much covered Leonard Cohen song, Hallelujah.

Saintseneca - Shipwrecked

"This band is called Saintseneca, from Columbus Ohio and their sound is along the same vein as many other foot stomping, people-having, instrument heavy folk music that has been emerging out of basements and living rooms everywhere lately." - Friends With Both Arms
