Neil Gaiman Quote - Love in the old-fashioned way

“Let us begin this letter, this prelude to an encounter, formally, as a declaration, in the old-fashioned way: I love you. You do not know me (although you have seen me, smiled at me). I know you (although not so well as I would like. I want to be there when your eyes flutter open in the morning, and you see me, and you smile. Surely this would be paradise enough?). So I do declare myself to you now, with pen set to paper. I declare it again: I love you.” — Neil Gaiman

Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris - Hallelujah

The Hope for Haiti telethon raised $59 million for the destroyed country. This beautiful performance (from the telethon) by Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris has probably just become my favorite version of the much covered Leonard Cohen song, Hallelujah.

Saintseneca - Shipwrecked

"This band is called Saintseneca, from Columbus Ohio and their sound is along the same vein as many other foot stomping, people-having, instrument heavy folk music that has been emerging out of basements and living rooms everywhere lately." - Friends With Both Arms

M.I.A. - Space Odessey

“The song and video were made Monday night for $100, after the New York Times, as she says: ‘f---ed up so hard,”’ M.I.A.’s publicist told the Fader. “She obviously finds it reckless and ignorant of the paper to not even scratch their own walls on what is reality in Sri Lanka.”

Bad Romance Equation

May Boatwright - The Secret Life of Bees

“Our mother said she was like Mary, with her heart on the outside of her chest.” -August Boatwright about her sister, May Boatwright, in the film The Secret Life of Bees

The character of May Boatwright is known for feeling everyone elses sorrows so deeply that most sadness wrecks her. When things are good she is happy-go-lucky; she is not a depressed or meloncholy character at all. May has an outstanding capacity for empathy.  This characteristic isn't shown in the film as a weakness. It's implied that she is almost stronger than everyone else because she is able to feel so deeply and care so fiercely for others. I hope I am more like her than not.

Wendell Berry Quote

"I now suspect that if we work with machines the world will seem to us to be a machine, but if we work with living creatures the world will appear to us as a living creature.

Ian Axel - This is the New Year

Originally I had this video posted as a New Year's song. But really it was quiet sad...unlike this fantastic, happy, joyous video (which I only discovered because a friend posted it on facebook)!!! Don't you just want to be friends with these people and have dinner parties together. Ian Axel's album will be out on Itunes on January 5th.
